I have attended various car launches and mingled with most of the companies CEO or bosses, in fact most like to represent themselves as approachable to media and find time to have a little chit chat with anyone around.  This man seems to carry a Hollywood movie star status. Today, I was invited to attend 2017 World Government Summit where 100 plus dignitaries and the distinguished speaker came to provide their vision and shared their invaluable success-stories. However, when Elon Musk came he received a standing ovation.  The hall was full with capacity. Luckily I never got a chance to sit so I was free to move around slyly. the idea was to get close and in-person with Mr. Elon Musk to ask few questions that I have prepared.  As it turned out a ‘bridge-too-far’ to reach.

The Closest I Can Get to Meet Elon Musk

Elon Musk co-founder plus CEO and Product Architect at Tesla was invited to this 2017 World Summit Conference as the United Arab Emirates is gearing up to be the beacon country for Electric Vehicles and sustainable energy. The session with Elon Musk is more of a relax Q & A session with His Excellency Mohammed Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and the Future and Chairman of World Government Summit. That was a session there amidst a series of tight security protocols.

Come evening, it was a different affair at the Armani hotel at Burj Khalifa where Elon Musk showed up again a gave a product presentation about Tesla Models X SUV and Tesla Model S sedan.  Still, the superstar status Elon Musk after the brief vanished off behind the screen and yet another once those questions remain unanswered!

Tesla has designed the most sophisticated electric vehicle charging network in the world, the Supercharger and Destination charging network, so owners can travel wherever and whenever they want. During the press brief, Elon emphasized that Tesla Motors plans a network of “Super Charger” stations to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman, and Qatar so as to provide extended charging service all across the Gulf countries

Tesla has opened two Supercharging locations at The Last Exit in Jebel Ali and in Masdar City, allowing drivers to recharge their vehicles in minutes rather than hours. By the end of the year, Tesla will open five additional Supercharger locations, enabling long distance travel across every route into and out of the country. The UAE is already home to a number of Tesla’s Destination chargers, which are available at 26 locations across the UAE, including hotels and shopping malls. Tesla will add more than 50 additional Destination charging locations by the end of the year.

Tech is the New Luxury!

Just consider for a moment the definition of “luxury”. I bet everyone has got his or her own opinion depending upon the needs and wants. Luxury could be anything that can provide ultimate comfort or that opulent bling at a particular time. Tesla has given a new meaning to luxury, and it is defined in the shape of “technology”. So today Tesla is the only manufacturer in the world that upgrades the car system over the wifi downloadable software. As an owner, you don’t have to take the car to a service center for a particular update. It’s just like updating your iPhone’s operating system for that matter. This also means that your Tesla will remain updated throughout its entire life!

Recently, there’s a lot of research and development that has gone in autonomous driving. Once again in terms auto driving Tesla is at the forefront and in Tesla’s parlance the luxury feature is called “Autopilot”.  So during a long boring drive, say from Dubai to Abu Dhabi where driving can strenuous and keep a constant eye contact on the road ahead and around through the rearview mirror, as you would naturally, Autopilot allows the driver to take their hands off the steering wheel and feet away from the pedal to take the fatigue from the driver, making you arrive at your destination fresh wow!

Interestingly, the Autopilot system is constantly collecting the data and there’s an over 3 billion driven miles data that has already been collected and the correction has been applied back into the car through the system update.

With Side Collision Waring and Autosteer + Autolane Change, the driver can experience full self-driving capability. Autopilot also includes Smart Summon where the car can navigate through tight parking via your mobile phone app perhaps just like a shopping mall parking lot! Then you have the On-ramp to Off-ramp feature that allows the car to join the highway from a feeder road or vice versa.
